This meetings venue
A well jointed box and drawer is the signature of fine wood working. For many who have never made drawers for a cabinet, kitchen, or dresser, making box joints or dovetail joints seems an ominous mystery to complicated to unvail. However, with an electric router and an appropriate jig, this mystery is unvailed in a simple and quick process of gang cutting all your drawers at once, making a few passes through this router, and viola, your joints are made.
I will be explaining
The importance of jigs
what jigs are
How they are made
How they are utilized in making joints.
What an electric router is
What a stanely# 55 is and how it can help with jointery
We will discuss your gosner chest design and what type of wood you initialy want to utilize.
The jig
A jig?s greatest assets are speed and ease of cutting your material.
After you go through a fussy initial setup, it takes very little time to cut a lot of perfectly fitting dovetails, box joints and more. It more than compensas for the setup time. A chest of
drawers, a run of box parts, or drawers for an entire kitchen are ideal applications for one of these jigs. Once you dial everything in, whether you are utilizing an electric router or a stanley #55 Plane you could easily cut all the joints you need in a short period of time!
We will learn how to make a box joint jig in this meeting, focusing on jig making will make your woodworking a lot more expdidiant.
Several pieces of scrap ¾ inch thick x 5 ½" wide wood a decent length at least one foot long. If you have already purchased an 8ft board go ahead and bring it!
We will be utilizing this wood as practice pieces. So inexpensive is the name of the game here!
There is a meeting fee
of 10.00 that allows the organizer to purchase photocopies, meeting resources, some supplies and refreshments.
